Clifford was born in Kansas with the rest of his siblings, but like several of them he too made the journey out to California. He had two children with Dacre Rea, Mary Ann in 1929 and Martha Jane in 1927. After Dacre died only three months after Mary Ann's birth, the children were sent to be raised by each of their grandparents respectively. Once Clifford remarried to Ollie Jameson he still did not take either of the children back. Once Martha Jane's grandparents became too ill, she too was taken in by the Waters grandparents. Clifford met an unlikely and untimely end when he died in 1954 after he slipped and fell on a step ladder while trying to replace a light bulb on the porch.
