The son of Jacob (son of James H. and Elizabeth Jane Spence Carter)and Mary Howard Carter. Burley was born in Pierce County Georgia on May 10, 1874. He was a brother of Benjamin Hill; William Riley; Jacob; Addie M. Carter Aspinwall; Silas; Alice; Mary Ella Carter Sapp; Minnie O; Lonnie C. and Lawton I. (twins) and Lessie. Burley married Minnie Lee Wilson (the daughter of Willman Reuben and Martha Johnson Wilson). They were the parents of ten children: Carlos; Jacob C. "Simon"; Alfred B; Lily; Stella L; Reuben; Nevada Carter Dyal; Minnie Mae Carter Crews Moole; John Burley and Daisy V. Carter Wood. Burley Carter was a farmer. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida about 1924 where he died on April 10, 1934 from a cerebral hemmorhage. His death certificate states that he was sixty years, ten months and twenty-nine days old. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida for 10 years. Burley is buried in the Shiloh Church Cemetery in Blackshear, Georgia. Minnie Lee Wilson Carter is buried near her husband.
