Harl Burton "Barney" Barnard 1919 - 2010 Resident of Belen, New Mexico since 1998, passed away on March 20, 2010.

Barney is survived by a loving wife of 59 years, Ruth; brother, Berne Barnard and wife, Dody and sister, Beth Krause and husband, Phil; brothers-in-law Bill Ewan and wife, Romayne and Lee Ingalls and wife, Alma; one daughter -in-law, Debbie Barnard, a daughter , Corby Lynne Chavez and husband, Robert and a son, Craig Barnard.

He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jeff Barnard and wife, Maggie, Chris Barnard and wife, Jessica, Burton Trembly and wife, Christina, Brett Trembly, Caitlin and Jordan Barnard and four great-grandchildren, Maile, Don, Asher, and Aiden. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barney was preceded in death by a beloved son, Dick "RK" Barnard and a wonderful sister-in-law, Doris Barnard.

Born in Reardan, Washington, April 28, 1919, Barney met Ruth in California, married and moved to Clovis and raised three children over the next 30 years while running an insurance agency.

He was elected in 1972 as Curry County State Representative and served for 10 years. He also served as a Curry County commissioner and numerous other elected and appointed positions, after which he and Ruth moved to Santa Fe.

In 1998, they moved to Belen to be closer to his family. His community service included the Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, Presbyterian Leadership Council, and later became a member of the First United Methodist Church. A celebration of Barney's life will be held March 25 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Riverside Funeral Home of Belen, 418 W. Reinken Avenue.
