Claude Rufus Whisnant, 88, of Collettsville Road, Lenoir died Monday, October 25, 2010 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born Oct. 29, 1921 in Caldwell County to the late Luther Worthy and Maude Montgomery Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Barrier Whisnant; brothers, Eugene Whisnant and Luther Whisnant; and sister, Irene Justice. Mr. Whisnant was retired from Thomasville Furniture and a member of Setzer's Gap Presbyterian Church. He was also a World War II United States Navy Veteran. Survivors include one brother, Ray Whisnant of Lenoir; three sisters, Margaret Church of Hickory, Lillian Crisp and Helen Reese, both of Lenoir; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Setzer's Gap Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Ken Byerly. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Kirby, Steven Walsh, Jonathan Nelson, Chris Helton, Rich Falkowski and Jimmy Henson.
