A native and resident of Mobile, Alabama, he attended McGill Institute, where he joined the tennis team and discovered a lifelong love of tennis. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Ruth Lambert. He joined the Army National Guard, serving in the 31st division during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he enrolled at Springhill College, received his accounting degree there in 1956, and began working at Waterman Steamship Corporation. He retired in 1996 from Teledyne Continental Motors. He was a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 666, where he served as Deputy Grand Knight; and was flag bearer for many years as a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. A devout Catholic, Tom grew up in St. Mary's parish and was an active member there for decades, serving in every capacity from altar boy to lector to PTA president. In later years, he was a member of Our Savior Catholic Church. Tom was a devoted advocate in the promotion of the sport of tennis, particularly among youth, coming full circle to coach his granddaughter's tennis team at McGill-Toolen. He was instrumental in the development and early expansion of the Mobile Tennis Center, one of the founders of Mirror Lake Racquet Club, a member of the United States Tennis Association, and past president of the Mobile Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, one son, three daughters, one sister, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and tennis associates.
