SHELBY TEMPLETON BREWER

Of Alexandria, VA died on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 78, following complications from pneumonia. Shelby was born on February 19, 1937 in Little Rock, AR to the late Donald Brewer and the late Fay Templeton Brewer.

Following the completion of two degrees at Columbia University, Shelby served as a commissioned officer in the U.S Navy from 1961-64. He completed a MS and PhD in Nuclear Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before joining the Atomic Energy Commission in 1971. He was the top nuclear official in the Reagan Administration from 1981 to 1984, serving as Assistant Secretary of Energy. After leaving government service, Shelby became the President of ABB-Combustion Engineering Nuclear Power, one of the world's leading energy companies. He was also an accomplished tennis player, securing a position on the 1953 Junior Davis Cup Team.

Shelby is survived by his wife, Marie Anesten Brewer; his children, Jens Brewer and Sara Trewhitt; their spouses Michele Brewer and Philip Trewhitt; and sister Janet Riggs. He was a proud and loving Grandfather to Hannah, Hayden, William, Matilda and Arthur.
