Thomasville, Sept 27 - A number of Thomasville relative and friends attended the funeral of James Mitchell Blackshear, of Beachton, which took place yesterday afternoon at the old family burying ground of the Mitchell family about nine miles from Thomasville, his death occurring Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Blackshear had been in failing health for some months and his death was not unexpected. With a large family connection and a great personal popularity there was probably no better known man throughout this section, many being attracted to him by ready wit and great memory of people and affairs. He was a native of Thomas County and was 77 years old. He served throughout the war between the States with distinction.

Surviving Mr. Blackshear are his wife and seven children, Mrs. S.M. Beach, Miss Elizabeth Blackshear, Miss Hattie Blackshear and J. M. Blackshear, Jr., of Beachton; Mrs. Edward L. Brown of Macon; Mrs. Harry Wyche, of Thomasville, and Thomas Raines Blackshear, of Montogomery, Ala.
