Abel Ezra attended Maine Wesleyan Seminary graduating with honors in 1884 and then took a course of theology at Boston University in 1885. Reverend Parlin served as pastor of several churches in Maine and New Hampshire. He was, according to his cousin, Frank Edson Parlin, "a young man of unusual promise possessing exceptional literary ability." He died young of the "white plague" in Paris, Maine in January 1895 at the age of 37. He left bereft his wife, 7 year old son, Elwyn, and 5 year old daughter, Leona.
