Dorothea May Bing Bryant, age 87, passed from this life at 8:15 pm, Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Galena Nursing Center, Galena, KS following an illness.

Dorothea was born Nov 12, 1927 near Towanda, KS. Her parents were Charles and Mabel (Davis) Bing.

She graduated from Augusta (KS) High School, and began working for the telephone company. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co in 1977. After retirement she worked part time for Katrina’s Fashions and for a short time at Carlisle Real Estate and Cure’s Law Office all in Galena.

For many years she was an active member of First Baptist Church, Riverton, KS.

She enjoyed collecting angels and was known for baking and making peanut brittle.

Dorothea was a member of First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. She was also in The Birthday Group, and had volunteered for years as a Pink Lady at St. John’s Medical Center, Joplin, MO.

She was married to Bill E Bryant Oct 15, 1949 at McPherson, KS. He preceded her in death July 22, 1995.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Loyd Bing and Jean Bing, one sister, Grace Elizabeth Bing, and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Bing.

Surviving is a loving daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Larry Jones, Galena, KS. One sister in law, Bennie Bing, Liberal, KS, and several nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 Thursday at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Ed Pope and Pastor Jeff Swart will officiate.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday Evening from 6-8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church, Galena, KS.
