Chip L. Maricle 68, of Saint Edward, NE, died unexpectedly Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home near Saint Edward, NE.

Chip LeRoy Maricle, the son of Ivan E. and E. Pauline Evans Maricle was born December 1, 1946 at St. Edward, Nebraska. He received his elementary education at rural Platte County School District #47, and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1965. Chip continued his education by attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he participated in the ROTC program.

Chip was married to Vernetta Prokopec at the St. Edward Methodist Church in 1968 and to this union were two children, Renae and Brian. Following his graduation with a degree in Agronomy, Chip entered the United States Air Force. While serving, he and his family moved to several bases including those in Texas and California. He served as a navigator and bombardier on the B-52 until his honorable discharge as a Captain in February of 1977. At the time of his discharge from active duty, he was one of the most highly decorated service personnel in Platte County.

Following his discharge, the family returned to St. Edward where he began farming with his father. On August 2, 1979, Chip was severely injured in an automobile accident. Since then he has been living with his mother Pauline north of St. Ed.

Chip is survived by his two children: Renae Schmidt (Patrick) of Columbus; Brian Maricle of Ellis, KS; his mother Pauline Maricle of St. Edward; two sisters: Dixie Pearson (Dean) of Omaha and Sharon Maricle of Lincoln; two nephews: Russ and Matt Pearson; his former wife: Vernetta Reed; and long time special caregiver: Delores "Johnnie" Buettner.

He was preceded in death by his father Ivan and infant son Richard.
