Alice M. Sprowls, 86, Presbyterian Home, Johnstown, formerly of Boswell, died Sept. 17, 1979, at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Born Sept. 21, 1892, in Phillipsburg, Pa., daughter of George and Hannah (Pilkington) Hartshorn. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Lester L., who died Mar. 29, 1965; sister Mrs. Esther Custer, brother George, and infant brother Clarence. Survived by three daughters: Romayne, wife of John L. Mayko, Johnstown; LaVonne, wife of Joseph Lawther, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Merwyn Lee, wife of Jay Ness, Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Ruth Oswalt and Mrs. Audrey Baughman, both of Boswell, and Marguerite, wife of Victor Landis, Pompano Beach, Fla. Member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell, and Wimodausis Rebekah Lodge No. 217, Somerset. Resident of Boswell over 60 years. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell, the Rev. George A. Clark. Interment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell.
