Sara Inglet Barnes was born on a farm west of Willis, Texas to Samuel J. Inglet and Ida Gunter Inglet on June 5, 1922 and passed away January 9 at Sunrise Senior Care Home in Conroe. The Inglets were from Germany and Georgia, and the Gunters were from Germany and Alabama. Known to most as Sara D., she was the only daughter in a family of five children. Three of her brothers served during World War II. Sara D. played basketball in high school, even earning a trip to Mexico as a reward for defeating their archrival, Conroe High School. She graduated from Willis High School in 1939. Sara D. then attended Texas Women's University in Denton.

In June of 1942, Sara D. married Edward Goethe Barnes. Several weeks later, Edward was sent to Pearl Harbor to work in civil service for the U.S. Navy. She soon joined him in Hawaii and also worked for the Navy. In 1946, Sara D. returned to Houston with their son, Aric, and a daughter, Carol, was born soon after. Sara D. became a homemaker and became involved in scouting and school activities. In 1956, Edward and Sara D. realized their life-long dream of owning land on which they would raise cattle. The two spent over fifty years working side by side in the cattle business both in Willis and Elkhart, Texas.y

Sara D. was preceded in death parents; brothers Sam Jr., Thomas Erwin, Jerry, and Billy Joe; and by her husband Edward. She is survived by son Avic and his wife, Karen; daughter Carol McAnally; grandchildren Doug McAnally and wife Jessy, Carrie Ferroukhi, AJ Barnes, Kaitlin Barnes and husband Koji Takagi; and great-grandchildren Walker Ferroukhi and McKane Ferroukhi.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis. Funeral service will be at 11:30 with a graveside service following at the Willis Cemetery.
