He was 91.
The ninth child of Willard Farr and Mary Ann (Minnie) Romney and the grandson of Lorin Farr, he is survived by his wife, Phylis Durham Farr; a son, Michael Durham Farr of Martinez, California; a daughter, Patricia Farr Wickman of Salt Lake City and nine grandchildren. One grandchild, Adam Farr Wickman, preceded him in death.
Born in a tent near Hunt, Arizona, on the snowy morning of January 1, 1907, it somehow seems fitting that he passed away almost 92 years later on another snowy morning. Educated at St. Johns (Arizona) Academy and the University of California, Berkeley, Jesse Farr earned his law degree at the University of California's prestigious Boalt Hall School of Law. A member of both the Arizona and California Bars, he practiced law for 34 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture--28 of them as Regional Attorney in charge of five western states. During this time, he also served as president of the San Francisco Federal Bar Association.
A life long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jesse Farr served as a missionary for 26 months in the Southern States Mission with President Charles A. Callis. He also served twice as a bishop, as a temple worker in the Oakland Temple and in many other responsible Church assignments. He was a particularly gifted teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesse Farr is remembered and revered by his family and friends as a man of faith, integrity and warmth. Born of pioneers in a pioneer setting, his character bore the strength and imprint of the pioneer. We will miss him.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 9, 1998 at noon in the Salt Lake Wasatch Stake Center, 8170 South Short Hills Drive (3425 East). There will be a viewing from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
