Obituary for Wilbur Jones
Wilbur L. Jones, 84 of Port Orchard, died July 1, 1999. He was born March 25, 1915 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Fred L. & Viola R. (Ground) Jones and was raised in Willowbrook, California. He married Durley Sutton on May 18, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death in 1997.Mr. Jones worked as a Machinist in Shop 38 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1977. He served in the U. S. Navy, Submarine Service from 1932 to 1955 earning numerous awards including Bronze Stars (2), South China Sea, and China Service Medals (2). A 3rd degree black belt in Jujitsu, Mr. Jones was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Off Reservation Indians Organization, Indian guides, Boy/Girl Scouts, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.Survivors include sons Terry Jones of Somerset, California and Michael Jones of South Colby, Washington; daughters Candy Fulton of Gilberton, Washington and Suzanne Jones of Seattle, Washington; and grandchildren Sean, Scott, David, Christopher, and Levi.Memorial Mass will be July 7, 1999 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
