Edward A. Brown died at his home in Mulvane at 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 1895, aged 65 years, 2 months and 1 day.
E. A. Brown was born in Ross county, Ohio, October 9, 1829. Came with his parents to Indiana in 1833 where he lived for many years. He was married to Miss R. B. Jennings of Ohio, March 29, 1849. His second marriage was to Miss Mary Yarnall on June 6, 1866. Came to Kansas in 1876 and lived in Wichita until 1881, when he came to Mulvane where he resided until his death. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for many years. He was a regular attendant at lodge meeting and had reached the highest honors of the order. He was converted during the revival meeting held in Mulvane by Rev. B. E. Shawhan. He united with the M. E. Church at the time, 1891, and remained a consistent and faithful member until his death. He died in the full assurance of a happy immortality beyond this life.
He had been sick ever since last spring and his sufferings during the last weeks of his life were very great, but he bore them with Christian resignation. He will be missed at home because his chair will be vacant and his words of kindness will be heard no more. He will be missed in the lodge, in the church, and on the streets because his familiar forms will be seen no more.
The burial and the funeral ceremonies were conducted by the I.O.O.F. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. P. D. Lahr in the M. E. Church at one o'clock p.m. Wednesday. The church was not large enough to accommodate all who came. A large procession followed the body to the Derby cemetery where the burial took place.
