COLLINSWORTH, Charles C. 93 of Springfield, passed away Saturday March 14, 2015 at the Dayton VA Hospice. He was born January 10, 1922 in Tazewell, TN, the son of Abe and Maggie (Rice) Collinsworth. Mr. Collinsworth honorably served in the US Army during WWII, where he was a member of the 244th Field Artillery Battalion 3rd Army 9th Corps under the command of General George Patton. He landed on Utah Beach, took part in the Battle of the Bulge, the liberation of France, and many other European campaigns, and traveled through seven countries during his military career. He then worked for the city of Springfield, helping to build the city streets, and later retired from Garber Electric. He was married on October 31, 1942 to Jeanetta (McConehea) Collinsworth, who preceded him in death on July 10, 1999. He was also preceded by siblings, Stacia Eichelberger, Ruby Loveless, George Collinsworth, and Jeanette Callicoat; and his parents. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Sarven of Springfield; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Mike) Donaldson, Levi Sarven, Melissa Sarven, and Riley Sarven; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Alyson, Anna, and Rebeckah; siblings, Opal Horner of Bellefontaine and Paul (Reatha) Collinsworth of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Saturday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the services. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Newcomers Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.
