SAN ANGELO – Dorothy “Dot” Rue Basham of Mertzon, Texas passed away March 16, 2015 in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 83.
Dot was born on November 26, 1931 in Ballinger, Texas to Charles Miller and Dollie Jessie Moore-Miller and was lovingly raised by Lillian and Bill Newman.
Dot and her brother grew up in Big Lake, Texas. In 1950 while working in a pharmacy soda shop a cowboy walked in and asked her out on a date. That cowboy was Jim Ed Basham and it was love at first sight. Jim Ed and Dot were married October 14, 1950 and they would spend the next 64 years together. Dot and Jim Ed had two children, a son and daughter. Other than the 2 years spent in Alaska where Jim Ed was stationed for the Army, Dot along side her husband spent 48 years on the Rocker B Ranch. In 1998 they retired to Mertzon, Texas not too far from the Rocker B. She enjoyed her retirement by doing what she loved best, being with people. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club for several years and an active volunteer for the First Baptist Church of Mertzon.
Dot had a kind heart, a warm smile, and an uncanny ability to make you feel right at home, no matter who or where you were from. Which explains why she hardly ever met a stranger. She showed her accommodating spirit in the form of cooking, baking and good conversation. If you asked anyone Dot made the best cinnamon rolls this side of the Concho. Dot loved fishing, gardening, flowers and trips to Ruidoso, New Mexico. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Dot’s grandchildren affectionately refer to her as Granny Dot. Dot was a wonderful lady and loved by all who knew her. She will be truly missed, but welcomed in the house of our Lord and by the many people she knew and loved who passed before her.

Dot is survived by her husband Jim Ed Basham of Mertzon; son Jim Basham and wife Cindy of Gatesville; daughter Jan Basham of Mertzon; grandchildren Ryan Basham and mother Donna Basham; Mikka Pavelka and husband Frankie; Misty Basham; and great- granddaughter Tatum Basham.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Miller and wife Shirley; sister-in-law Billie Jean Skelton and husband Joe Skelton; and sister-in-law Elvey Basham.
