West Yarmouth - Elizabeth (Tomasian) Ahronian, of West Yarmouth and Westborough formerly of Millbury passed away unexpectedly in her sleep Sunday, March 15, 2015. She was 90 years of age.
Elizabeth was born in Worcester; her parents were the late George and Sarah (Israelian) Hightian. She grew up in Auburn and graduated from Oxford High School. In 1952, Elizabeth married Henry Ahronian in the Armenian Church of Our Savior. They settled in Millbury and raised their family with love and happiness. In 1982, they retired to Yarmouth on Cape Cod. In 2008, Henry passed away after 56 years of marriage. Elizabeth, longing to be closer to her children, moved to Westborough in 2013.
Elizabeth worked her whole life in the insurance industry. She began as an Individual Insurance Broker for the Protector Group in Worcester and then Bryden and Sullivan Insurance agency in Hyannis before retiring. She was also a registered Real Estate Broker.
She is survived by her devoted family, her son Leon H. Ahronian and his wife Anne of Holden, daughter Gail A. Racicot and her husband Ronald of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren she cherished, Thomas and Leanne Ahronian and Nathan Racicot; nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was predeceased by a sister, Mary Derkosrofian.
Elizabeth was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Savior. She found much enjoyment in gardening; cherished her rose bushes, hydrangeas flower gardens and prize tomatoes. She loved the summers on Cape Cod and traveling to Florida for winter vacations. Elizabeth was inspired by her family, their wellbeing and success. The greatest moments of her life were shared with her treasured grandchildren.
Elizabeth's funeral will be held Thursday, March 19th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a procession to the Armenian Church of Our Savior, 87 Salisbury St. where her service will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours from 9 am to 10:30 am prior to leaving for church. Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Armenian Church of Our Savior, 87 Salisbury Street Worcester 01609.
Burial next to her husband will be held Saturday, March 21st at 11 am in the Chandler Gray Cemetery in Yarmouth.
