Retired Assistant Fire Chief, John Paul Baca of Veguita, received his last call on Friday, March 13, 2015. Paul passed away suddenly at his place of residence sometime during the early morning hours.
Paul was born on June 27, 1964 and graduated from Belen High School in 1982. Paul continued his education attending the UNM-Eastern Valencia County Satellite Center for three years.
Paul was a lifelong resident of Veguita, whose diverse career included experience in construction, mechanical work, drilling water wells and farming. Paul was a member of the Veguita Fire Department from its inception in 1983 until his retirement in 2014. His knowledge and abilities coupled with his tremendous strength allowed him to provide a helping hand to many of his friends and family. Paul had a servant’s heart and willingly gave his time and assistance to anyone who needed help with no thought of compensation.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Abenicio Baca and his mother, Juanita G. Parra.
Paul is survived by his fiancée, Sherri Ridley of Veguita, sister, Frances García and her husband, Sam of Bosque, brother, Leon Baca and his wife, Dedra of Las Cruces, brother, Eddie Montoya of Belen and sister, Dolores Parra of Las Cruces.
Paul will be sorely missed by the family, friends and community who loved him.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at San Isidro Catholic Church in Las Nutrias, NM beginning with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at San Isidro Cemetery. A reception will follow at Main Fire Station 2 in Las Nutrias, NM.
