Ruby Ellen Beck, age 81 of Athens, passed away, Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at her residence.
Born on July 3, 1933, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Mattie Ellen Byrum Beck. She was also preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers-in-law, Ethel and Jess Calhoun, Leta and Reed Axley, Chassie and C.C. (Kit) Womac, Clara and Gus Thompson, and Gladys and Floyd Grubb all of Athens, Pearl and Felix Skelton of Texas, and an infant sister Mildred Lucille Beck of Mosheim, TN; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rev. Carl James Beck and wife Hazel, William Ralph Beck of Athens, Charles Fred Beck and wife Jean of Warner Robins, GA, and Glynn Franklin Beck of Knoxville.
She was a graduate of McMinn County High School, class of 1951 and attended Carson-Newman College.
She was a previous employee of Sun Finance Corporation for twenty-two years, and retired from Heritage Pontiac after almost ten years of service.
A member of North Athens Baptist Church, she was active in the choir and taught the Dorcas Women's Sunday School class for many years as well as teaching children in Sunday School and directing the children's choir.
Survivors: One sister-in-law, Mrs. Glynn (Una Vee) Beck of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and many close friends, especially her church family.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2015 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Kerr and Rev. Scott Duckworth officiating.
Interment will follow in Sullins Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rogers, Doyle Chambers, J. B. Wilson, Greg Hayes, Terry Smith and Steve Bain.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
