Guy Niederer Bledsoe
1918 - 2015
Guy Bledsoe passed away on March 13 of this year in his room at Paramount Park in Eagle, Idaho after a brief illness as a result of a fall. He was in the company of his youngest daughter, Anita and Dennis Dahl. Dad was born on August 1, 1918, in Sugar City, Idaho, the sixth of eleven children born to Marion and Mary Hazel Bledsoe. They subsequently moved to Archer, Idaho, where he attended school up to the 10th grade. Due to the depression, he had to quit school to help support his family. Although not formally educated, he sought education at every opportunity, eventually becoming a carpenter and successfully supported his family. On November 13, 1940, he married the former Irma Grover Obrey in Pocatello, Idaho and adopted her two children, Jerry and Janae, from a previous marriage. They moved to California where he obtained employment in the San Francisco ship yards building Liberty ships, and was promoted to foreman. He eventually joined the Army and served in the Philippines in a special engineering battalion.
Dad built three homes where his growing family was raised in El Cerrito, California and Walnut Creek, California, before returning to Idaho.
Two more children were born to this marriage, Anita Jean Bledsoe (Dahl) and Dennis Guy Bledsoe. After the war, Dad was employed as a carpenter in the Oliver and Coburn Construction Company, where he eventually was promoted to general superintendent.
Dad is survived by two sisters, Faye Welker and Glenna Bishop; four children, Jerry, Janae, Anita, and Dennis; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Dad's appetite for learning made him a scholar, and encouraged his children to seek higher education. He was much loved and appreciated for the selfless service he provided in his church and in the Boy Scout program. Always ready to lend a hand, he will be missed by both family and those he associated with. He has gone on to be reunited with his wife and other departed family members, in our Heavenly Father's pleasant kingdom.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Dry Creek Cemetery. Family will greet friends at a viewing from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St., Boise.
