Funeral services for John A, Matheson were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, 1996 at the United Church of Primghar. Rev. Don Morrison officiated. Musical selections were played by Delmar Dahnke. Casket bearers were Michael Matheson, Vernon Brosh, Donald Dougherty, Danny Ginger, Ivan Brosh and Ger­ald Lange. Final resting place was at Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, with Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John August Matheson, the son of Thomas and Dollie Ginger Matheson, was born August 22, 1911 in Dickinson County near Milford. He received his education in country school and later Gaza High School.

On Sept. 23, 1933 he was united in marriage to Lena Ganzevoort. The couple fanned in O'Brien County until moving into Primghar. John was employed at the Elite Cleaners in Primghar until operating Lenny's Cafe in Paullina and later the Texaco Service Sta­tion in Primghar.

On March 26, 1964 he was united in marriage to Leonora Langholz. The couple made their home in Primghar where before John's retirement he was employed at the Primghar Lumber Store. The last two months he had been a resident of the Primghar Care Center. He passed away there on Monday, Feb. 26, 1996, reaching the age of 84 years, six months and four days.

He was a member of the United Church of Primghar and was known for helping others and his love of dancing and polka music. John is survived by one daughter, Donna and her husband Ron Bergeson of Sioux City; one son, Del and his wife Sandy Matheson of Lincoln, Ne.; a step-son, Jack Langholz of Sedona, Az.; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great­grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren: one sis­ter, Mrs. Lula Dougherty of Ireton; and a very special friend, Agnes Bartholomew of Round Lake, Mn.; also a host of other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Leonora, parents, three sisters and one brother.
