George was the son of George C. Hazelwood, Sr. and Margaret Misner (or possibly Mizner or Misener).

He was born in Ohio, but moved to Kittitas, Washington when he was a young man. He appears in the 1900 US Census living in the household of his stepfather, Louis Bowlan.

He does not appear to have ever married.

He was a Merchant Seaman, and appears on the 1930 Merchant Seamen Census, aboard the S. S. Border King.

He shares a plot with his brother Enos.
