In his retirement, before moving to South Carolina, Rick Zuehlke and his wife Carol lived for some years in Wilmot, New Hampshire. While there, they were active participants in Outdoor Recreation For Seniors (ORFS) and made many friends in the group.

Richard W. Zuehlke December 23, 2014

Richard W. Zuehlke, 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Indian Land, SC, surrounded by his family. Born in Milwaukee, WI, Rick got his PhD from the University of Minnesota, then pursued his lifelong goals of 10 years teaching, 10 years administration and 10 years research. His career included time at Lawrence University in WI, the University of Bridgeport in CT, the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography and as an administrator for the Gordon Research conferences.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 59 years Carol Y. Zuehlke of Indian Land, sons Kenneth (Karen) Zuehlke of Medina, OH and William (Elizabeth) Zuehlke of Charlotte, NC, daughter Deanne (Robert) Fuller of Rochester, NY and 6 grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Cody, Timothy, Shane and Gregory, and by his sister Sue (Kit) Larsen of Sioux City, IA and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care of South Carolina, especially of Lancaster County, and Rick's caregivers Mary, Renee and Elizabeth for providing such wonderful care in his last months.

A service of remembrance will be held at Heritage Funeral Home Ballantyne Chapel, 16151 Lancaster Hwy in Charlotte on Sunday Dec. 28 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice Care of South Carolina.
