Richard W.A. Taylor, 82, of 27219 Embassy St., a certified public account for 45 years before retiring in 1977, died Sunday at the Canterbury Nursing Home, Rancho Palos Verdes. He was the husband of the late Edith M. (Pettit) Taylor.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Richard and Mary A. (Bagley) Taylor, he lived in Barrington for 30 years before moving to Sun City in 1980.
Mr. Taylor began his career with Ernst & Ernst, Providence, in 1932. In 1939, he worked for the Lee & Taylor Co., Providence, until 1948, when he formed his own firm, Taylor & Co., Cranston, before retiring.
He was a member of Phillips Memorial Baptist Church, Cranston. He was a member of Doric Lodge 38 F & AM, Cranston, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence, the Palestine Temple Shrine, Cranston, the Palestine Rubba Shrine Club, Signet Chapter 21, Order of the Eastern Star, Providence Court 71, Royal Order of Jesters, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Taylor was a past president of the Rhode Island Certified Public Accountants Association, a member of the British Empire Club, Providence, and the Rhode Island Estate Planning Council.
He was a 1928 graduate of the former Bryant & Stratton Business College, now Bryant College. He was a member of the Sun City Masonic Club and the Cherry Hills Golf Club. He attended Sun City United Methodist Church.
Mr. Taylor is survived by a daughter and four grandchildren.
