Sgt. Danny Ray Ayers, 21, of Memphis, son of Lloyd Ayers and Mrs. Fleming was killed in Vietnam September 14. His father said he was on guard duty on the Da Nang River when he was struck by a military vehicle.
Sgt. Ayers was born in Jackson, TN, but lived in Memphis much of his life. He attended Fairview Junior High School and Tech High School and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Before entering the service about three years ago, he was a Press Scimitar carrier. He served in Germany before going to Vietnam in October 1967 . His family said he was looking forward to a rest and recreation time soon when he hoped to meet an old friend now stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.
He also leaves three brothers, John and William Thomas(Bill) Ayers of Memphis and James Lloyd Jr. of Dyersburg, TN. ; two sisters, Carol and Connie Ayers of Memphis, and a half-sister, Laurie D. Fleming in Jackson, TN.
