James "Jim" Broyles, 82, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home.

He was born on April 27, 1927 in Borger, Texas, the son of Oscar and Maude Broyles.

He spent his childhood in southern California.

As a young man, he joined the Navy serving his country during World War II, being stationed in Japan.

On June 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Irene Abbott in Ada, Oklahoma and they had three children.

After the service, he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 20 years in Borger, TX, Wichita, KS, and Humboldt, KS. The family moved to Humboldt in 1961 and Jim started Broyles, Incorporated in 1969, retiring in 1992.

Jim is survived by his wife Irene of the home; his son David and wife Terry of Humboldt, KS; daughter Janet Rausch and husband John of Chanute, KS; daughter Betty Bartlett and husband Larry of Humboldt, KS; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Tom Broyles; and one sister, Nancy Canady.

Cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Humboldt Methodist Church.

Memorials in his name may be made to the World War II Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and may be left with the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Veteran's account at the Bank of Commerce or the American Legion Riders, Post 170.

Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
