Thomas J. ,Jr. CANTRELL
•Sex: M
•Birth: 1791 in Spartanburg Dist., South Carolina
•Death: in Alabama

Father: Thomas J. CANTRELL b: 26 JAN 1761 in Orange Co., North Carolina
Mother: Elizabeth A. NORRIS b: 10 MAR 1765 in South Carolina

"Thomas Cantrell and his family moved to Alabama, where he died leaving a family on whom we could get no records." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 102.)

"The US census of Warren County, Tennessee in 1830 lists a Thomas Cantrell, age 30-40. The US census of McMinn County, Tennessee in 1840 lists a Thomas Cantrell, age 20-30. The US census of McMinn County does not list a Thomas Cantrell in 1850. It seems reasonable to assume that Thomas Cantrell followed his uncle, Moses Cantrell, to Cherokee, Alabama. Moses left McMinn County between 1830 and 1840, and he made the drawing for land in the Cherokee Cession of 1835. Moses settled in Cherokee County, Alabama with his wife, Elizabeth, and his sons, John and James also drew one fourth of a section of land." (CANTRELL-CANTRILL by Horace Elbert Cantrell, 1972, pages 101c and 116)

"Thomas Cantrell, Jr. was born in 1791 in Greenville District, South Carolina. He accompanied his parents to Tennessee and in 1820 was unmarried and living with his father and mother in Warren County, Tennessee. He was engaged in farming and his father was operating the Old Forge. He married in Warren County before 1852. His first wife was _______ Cantrell, born between 1800 - 1810. Her parentage has not been determined. In 1830, they were recorded in Warren County, and they were the parents of four sons under 5 years of age. Soon after he moved over the mountains to McMinn County, Tennessee to join his brothers and sister. His first wife and three of the sons died before 1831.

"He married second, Lucinda Glaze in 1832. She was born in 1814 in Georgia and was a daughter of Henry and Susan Glaze. In 1840, Thomas and Lucinda were recorded in the Cantrell Crossroads section of McMinn County, Tennessee. One of the sons, 10 to 15 years of age was at home. In 1849, Thomas joined with other members of the family on the move to Marion County, Alabama. In 1850, they were recorded in the 14th District of Marion County, Alabama. He was living on rented land. They were recorded in the Eastern District, P. O. Astons Store in 1860. He was still renting land and had a personal worth of $250. With the opening of the war, Thomas and Lucinda moved to Illinois, where they moved to, we have been unable to determine. Later census reports of some of the children, indicate grandchildren born in Illinois." (Additional information on the family and some of the descendants of Thomas Cantrell, Jr. was taken from "Cantrells and Sullivans" by Jerry Young, in THE BOONE COUNTY HISTORIAN, Harrison, Arkansas, Vol. XIII No. II, 1990, pages 276 - 281.)
