A message was received at the C & O Railway offices in this city on Thursday from Richmond announcing the death of Mr J W Meredith, of Richmond, who held the responsible position of inspector of tracks on the entire system of the C & O. According to the advices received here Mr Meredith died at 12:15 pm. The deceased was well and favorably known in this city. He was of a jovial disposition and made friends of all with whom he came in contact. The news of Mr Meredith's death has been received here with the keenest regret by his large number of friends and acquaintances. Mr Meredith was operated on a few days ago and failed to rally from the operation.
Deceased was a brother of Capt D H Meredith, of Temple street, this city. The funeral will be at Richmond, Saturday.
