Kernersville, NC-Julia Newman Pitts, 73, went home to be with her Lord March 10, 2015.

Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 2:00PM Sunday March 15, 2015 at Shackelford Funeral Home in Henderson, Tennessee. Interment will follow in the Henderson City Cemetery.

A native of Henderson, Tennessee, Julia was the daughter of the late Tracy Magdalene Holloway and Algie Utawsie Newman. She graduated from Chester County High School and later attended Freed Hardeman College. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Union University. She would later start her Master’s Degree at Memphis University and ultimately received two Master’s Degrees from NC A&T University.

She was a teacher and a sports coach at Northwest Guilford Junior High School and later was a Guidance Counselor at Northwest Guilford High School.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her siblings Georgia Galbraith, Quinten Newman, and Imagene Smith.
She is survived by daughter Jeannie Starr and Jay of Colfax, son Jody Pitts of Kernersville, three grandsons Chase Newman Starr, Seth Logan Pitts, and Owen Zane Starr, and her dear sister Bobbie Newman. She was formerly married to Joe W. Pitts. She will be dearly missed by numerous students, faculty, and friends from her years at Northwest School.
