Obituary from Jay Chapel: "Ann Susan Ferrato, age 92, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009, in Fresno, California. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on February 16, 1917, she had resided in Madera since her early childhood. She attended La Vina School, Madera Union High School (class of 1935) and was a graduate of Fresno State College (currently CSUF). In 1940 she began her elementary teaching career at Cotton Blossom School. She also taught at La Vina, Howard and Ripperdan schools. From 1966 - 1972 she taught 4th grade at St. Joachim's School where she also served as vice principal for two years during that time. Additionally, she served as president of St. Joachim's Parents Club in 1965 - 1966 and was a member of St. Joachim's Parish Council from 1968 - 1971. Although she retired from teaching in 1972, she continued to help children through tutoring.

While attending a 4H meeting at Lucca's Restaurant, she met her future husband, Charles Ferrato. They were married on July 14, 1946 in the old St. Joachim's Church in Madera.

Ann was a faithful member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church, the California Retired Teacher's Association, The Italo-American Club Auxiliary, and the Madera County Historical Society. During her retirement years, in addition to being active in her various associations, she was able to travel extensively and enjoy her many hobbies including oil painting, quilting, cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, rug hooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, ..., three grandchildren, .... Also surviving are her brother, ... and a sister, ..., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Charles Ferrato, her parents, Sante and Camilla Baldrica, three sisters, Christina Badella, Frances Ospital, and Mary Silva, and one brother, Joe Baldrica.

The family wishes to thank the caring and supportive staffs at Cedar Creek Retirement Community in Madera and San Joaquin Gardens in Fresno, as well as Dr. Joseph Pascuzzo of Cancer Care Associates in Fresno.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 16, 2009 from 2 to 7 PM in Jay Chapel with a Vigil Service following at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 9 AM in St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera with Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
