Frances Helen Craycroft died at Sublimity January 19, She was 94.
Mrs. Craycroft lived in Salem 55 years before moving to Marian Estates a retirement home in Sublimity, in 2002. In Salem, she was active in First Christian Church, Independent Order of Foresters and Red Cross blood bank She donated more than 20 gallons of blood and volunteered hundreds of hours as an attendant at blood drives.
She worked in the delicatessen at the Safeway store at l2th and Center streets until she was 89. Employees and regular customers affectionately called her "Grandma”.
The daughter of Lewis and Lena Palmer, she was born in Portland December 23, 1911. She married William H. Craycroft at Vancouver, Wash., in 1929. The Craycroft's lived in the Los Angeles area several years before moving to Salem in 1946.
After her husband died in 1969, Mrs. Craycroft moved to Paradise Island Mobile Home Park. She lived there 2l years.
She is survived by two sons, William L.of Aumsville and Walter of Shelby N .C.; three daughters, JoAnn Andrews of San Diego, Mary Kowitz of Portland and Paula Bray of Charleston S,.C.; 26 grandchildren; 4l great-grandchildren;
and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Aleene Blackmer in 1980.
A memorial service will be at 11a.m Tuesday January 24,at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd NW, Salem. The family requests that those who wish to honor Mrs. Craycroft with a memorial gift send a contribution to the
