Orville K. Warnke, 65, of Rt. 1 St. Libory died Wednesday at a Grand Island hospital. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Jeff Hayman will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation was to be Friday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Warnke was born April 17, 1917, at Oconee, the son of Charles and Myrtle Knepp Warnke. He grew up and attended schools in Madison and Boone counties and then farmed with his parents. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. He married Wilma White on Feb. 14, 1943, at Albion. Mr. Warnke served in France and Germany during World War II. After his discharge they came to Grand Island. He had worked at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Debus Bakery and Diamond Engineering. He retired several years ago due to ill health. Mrs. Warnke died in 1976.
He married Iola Hatcher on Aug. 20, 1978. They made their home in Grand Island. Not long ago they moved to the St. Libory area. Mr. Warnke had been a member of the Teamsters union and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Steve, of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. Leo (June) Schritt and Anita Alvis, both of Grand Island; four step daughters, four step sons; 17 step-grandchildren; a brother, Charles of San Leandro, Calif., and two sisters, Mabel Church of Profittown, Ill., and Louis Klitzke of Oakland. He was preceded in death by four grandchildren, a sister and two daughters.
