Winston-Salem - Ms. Sarah Young Austin, 88, passed away on March 5, 2015. Graveside services will be held 1:00PM-Monday, March 9, 2015 at Four Oaks City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Joey Yow. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday March 10, 2015 in the Arbor Acres Fellowship Hall at 2:00PM in Winston-Salem. Ms. Austin was born February 4, 1927 in Four Oaks, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annice Carmen and Joseph Henry Austin; companion, Helen Garvey; sister, Carmen "Nancy" Hogan; brothers, Joseph Ekie Austin, Samuel Aubrey Austin, Edward Heathcliff Austin, and John "Jack" Parker Austin. Ms. Austin attended Woman's College, now The University of North Carolina in Greensboro, where she obtained her undergraduate degree and The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she received her Masters in Social Work. She worked for forty three years at Family Services, the last ten years as the president, in Winston Salem. While there she helped place three hundred children in loving homes.For the last several years she lived at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community in Winston Salem where she enjoyed playing bridge, skip bo, watching basketball and baseball, and telling her friends about the evils of voting Republican. She enjoyed meeting people and never tired of making new friends. She loved spending time at her homes Sea and Sound in Emerald Isle and Rhodo-den in Blowing Rock where her friends, nieces and nephews were instructed on many topics of life. She relished fussing about the chipmunks who constantly raided the bird feeders.Ms. Austin is survived by several nieces and nephews including Martha Ann Isenburg and many close friends.Memorials may be made to Arbor Acres Resident Assistance Fund, c/o Wendy Carson, 1240 Arbor Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27104, UNCG, for the Sarah Young Austin Enrichment Fund, UNCG Advancement Service, P.O.
