Mrs. Marie Rountree Hunnicutt

Mrs. Marie Rountree Hunnicutt, age 95, died Monday evening at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility.

The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was the daughter of the late Jimmy Drone Rountree and Sula Akins Rountree. She was a member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church.

Marie was a homemaker and a farm wife. She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, who spoiled everyone. An excellent cook, she was known for her homemade biscuits and banana pudding. In addition to her cooking, she loved gardening. Marie believed in letting nothing go to waste and was generous in sharing her harvest with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John R. Hunnicutt; a grandson, James Davis and three sisters, Loree Hendrix, Earle Luckett and Minnie Lee Rountree.

Surviving are a son, Charles Hunnicutt of Statesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Charles Gillis of Hoboken, Janice and Jim Davis and Donna and Howard Tucker all of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Chuck Gillis and wife Erika of Hayesville, NC and Amber and Toby Tucker both of Statesboro; seven great grandchildren, Alan, Seth, Mason and Gillian Gillis and Montana, Kemp, and Morgan Walker; two sisters, Faye Akins and Dorothy Thompson both of Statesboro and a brother, J.D. Rountree of Statesboro.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 10:00am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating.

Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Rev. Perry Hearn officiating.

Pallbearers will be Toby Tucker, Chuck Gillis, Romaine Bradford, Bill Akins, Lee Luckett and Danny Luckett.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
