Memorial services for James Ellsworth Alyea, age 69, of La Porte, who died Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. with a complication of diseases, were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Gaverstock chapel in La Porte, the Rev. M.E. Reinke officiating. Burial was in Patton Cemetery, La Porte. Mr. Alyea was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Alyea and was born at Westville on April 4, 1863. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of La Porte. Surviving are four nieces, Mrs. L. R. Watt of Wheeler, Ind.; Mrs. F. F. Lutz of Valparaiso; Mrs. Anna Garney of Gary, and Mrs. Florence Shaffer of Hobart, and three nephews. His wife, Catherine Hardesty, died nineteen years ago, and one child also preceded him in death.
