Grace Edna Backlund was born in Herman, Minnesota on October 30, 1886. She was the daughter of Michael and Jennie (Harrison) Sheppard. She married Adolph T. Backlund August 24, 1917. Grace was a former school teacher in the Herman and Hoffman areas. They lived in Hoffman, Delano, Minneapolis and Osakis. In 1955 they moved to Alexandria.
Survivors are two sons: Boyd Backlund, Alexandria, Minn., and Ralph T. Backlund of Washington, D.C., and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died April 1, 1963, parents, an infant son, and two brothers.
Funeral service was held at the First Lutheran Church, July 13, 1979 with Rev. Philip Westby officiating. Pallbearers were Gordon Backlund, Mark Isherwood, Arnold Overgaard, Orlin Maanum, Donald Olson and Jack Perreton. Interment at Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Services directed by Alexandria Funeral Home.
