Charles was born in Preble County, Ohio; the son of John Franklin and Sarah Alice (Huffman/Hoffman) Shields.

He was united in marriage to Josephine "Jose" (Bierly) Shields on January 24, 1900, in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio, with whom he shares a headstone. To this union, no children were born.

Charles B. Shields, 69-year-old Preble county native, died early Saturday morning in Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, following a year's illness from heart disease. Mr. Shields operated a commercial printing plant in Columbus for several years.

The deceased is survived by his widow, Josephine; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Alice Shields, of Eaton; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Beam and Mrs. Emma Geeting, of Eaton and a brother, LeRoy, also of Eaton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Salem Lutheran Church, West Alexandria, in charge of Rev. A. E. Bradow. Burial was made in Sugar Grove cemetery, Lexington.
