Peter Grismer was born at Cleveland, Ohio, July 22, 1854. He was the second son of John Grismer, one of the first settlers in the territory, who came to Otter Tail County about 1868, and settled in Rush Lake Township.
Peter Grismer was a driver of the Red River Valley oxcarts, driving from Winnipeg, down through the Black Hills. After his marriage, he settled on the farm in Rush Lake Township.
He was married to Veronica Karsnia at the St. Joseph's church, November 6, 1878. To this union, sixteen children were born, namely – William, who died last August at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Sophia, Sr. Petrina, OSF; Anna, Mrs. Meller of Shreveport, LA; Veronica, Mrs. Schulte of Saskatchewan; Margaret, Sr. Ermentrude, OSF; Peter, deceased; Elizabeth, Mrs. A. Arbour of Ironton, MN; John of this locality; Jacob of Saskatchewan; Aloysius, Bro. Bertram, OSF; Julia, Mrs. John Martodam, deceased; Joseph and George of Wallace, ID; Frank of Burke, ID; Walter, deceaswed; and Pauline, Mrs. Francis Delaney of Lake Park, Iowa. They also had one adopted son, Walter, of Wallace, ID.
Besides his wife and thirteen children, he is survived by three brothers and one sister – Henry of this community; Martin of Marshall, TX; Joe of Saskatchewan; and Mrs. Mary Scheidecker of Coeur d'Alene, ID.
Peter Grismer passed away at St. James Hospital, Thursday, March 31, 1932.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2 at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. J. G. Wildenborg officiating. Interment was made in the parish (St. Joseph's) cemetery. Pall bearers were neighbors: A. W. Doll, Martin Beringer, Robert Scheidecker, Joseph Hassler, Engelbert Gruner, and August Goyke.
Mrs. Arbour and Bro. Bertram were the only relatives from out of town, who were able to attend the funeral.
