Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles E. "Bud" Botdorf, Jr. of Prairie Village died April 21st. 2006. He was born in Kansas City on Decemeber 30, 1916. He is a graduate of Paseo High School and the Kansas City Art Institute. His artwork was dispalyed at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and was commissioned in 1943. With the Corp of engineers 35th Engineering Combat Battalion, he cross Omaha Beach 1944 and defended Bastogone, crossing the Rhine River under General Patton and the Third Army. He was awared the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy.
His assignments have taken him to England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Canada, Japan, Korea, Fort Manmoth, NJ; Fort Belvior, VA; Camp Crowder, MO; Fort Levenworth, KS; Fort Hood, TX; Camp White, OR and Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
He retired from active duty in 1964. In retirement, he worked as a commercial artist on occasion and enjoyed pursuit of his art and hobbies.
He is preceded in death by his brother and sisters, daughter Nancy and son Michael.
