Sam was my first cat. Named after the character in the 80's TV series Quantum Leap, Sam was the leader of the house and was a quiet and distinguished gentlecat in everything he did. He was the quiet ruler in his formal black and white tuxedo and was kind and gentle to everyone that he met. In Early January of this year Sam was diagnosed with an extremely rare Feline Hemangio-Sarcoma. This type of vascular cancer is almost unheard of in felines and is most common in dogs. He almost didn't survive the surgery in January but made a great recovery and went on to live 5 more wonderful months in which he was spoiled every day and night. He especially enjoyed the cans of "Human-Tuna" that we had been giving him while holding his two sibling cats at bay. Two weeks ago while we were trimming his nails and putting some eye-ointment in we discovered 2 more lumps that had appeared over night we realized that our worst fears had returned. The cancer had returned and we had already said that we wouldn't attempt the surgery again and let nature take it's course. He spent his last night sleeping between both of us on the bed for the entire night and when I woke up at 530am He was eating normally and wrestling with his sister cat Abigail (aged 6 months) and seemed himself in every way. Then about 2 hours later as we were getting ready to get the kids out for Soccer and other things we heard the sounds we all feared. Sam was hiding under the bed and we knew from his plaintive mewings that something very wrong had happened and the time had come. He was taken to the vet and he departed from us on his trip to the bridge at 1000am on May 20th, 2006 where he was reunited with his brother E T The Cat who left us in November of 2005. He was always there with a paw and a purr for everyone he met and he will be greatly missed.
