EMPLOYE OF CITY SUCCUMBS HERE.

Tom C. Atkinson, 70, superintendent of Bernstein park, died early Friday at his home 911 Jackson street. The funeral will be held at the Davis-Lawhead Funeral home, Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rabbi F. K. Hirsch officiating. Interment will be in the Jewish cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be the following: Dr. J. Q. Graves, C. R. Tidwell, E. Jack Selig, Henry Haas, S. K. Henninger, N. E. Dawson, Gus Swayze, Ralph Baldwin, Louie Cohen and Abe Arent. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends of Mr. Atkinson.

Mr. Atkinson was born in Farmerville June 28, 1873 and lived there until he reached manhood, when he came to Monroe to live and has resided here ever since. For the past few years he has been employed by the city of Monroe as Bernstein park superintendent. He was well known and highly regarded by an unusually wide circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, T. Clarence Atkinson, Baton Rouge; Sergeant Isaac Atkinson, stationed at Camp Young, California; one granddaughter, Donna Gail Atkinson; one brother, Will H. Atkinson, Monroe, former city commissioner of streets and parks; and a sister, Mrs. Irene Covington, Farmerville.
