Services Today For Mason W. Altman
Mason W. Altman, 65, retired manager of accounting for West Texas Utilities Company, was found dead about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at his home, 1850 Chestnut , after an apparent heart attack. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Dr. Frank D. Charllon, pastor, will officiate, with burial in Elmwood Memorial Park under direction of Elmswood Chapel, formerly Kiker-Warren.
Mr. Altman retired Sept. 1, 1973 after more than 42 years of active service with WTU. His career began in 1930 when he joined the company as a clerk in the general office.
In 1913 he left WTU to enter the Air Force, returning two years later to become chief statistical clerk. He was promoted in 1960 to assistant statistician and in 1962 to manager of WTU’s statistical section, and became manager of accounting in June of 1972.
Born Aug. 26, 1908 at Loraine, Mr. Altman attended public school in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1926. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington and received his BBA degree from UT at Austin in 1930, moving then to Abilene.
He and his wife, the former Avis Claire Graham, were married here on Oct. 14, 1933. She died April 21, 1970.
Mr Altman was a member of St Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the official board and served as trustee of the YWCA.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Kay) Turney of Lawton, 0kla.; two grandchildren; a brother, F. B. Altman of 1802 Sayles; and three sisters, Mrs. Sidney Lee Robertson of Eastland, Mrs. Edith Terry of Cisco and Miss Wanda Altman of Baird.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made in form of contributions to McMurry College or flowers.
Pallbearers will be J. Hubert Hendricks, Odie Cannon, S. C. Johnson, Gaines Short, Jim Binion, Roff Hardy, Vic Haldridge and T. J. Bailey 0zona.
