REDLANDS, CA - Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully into heaven on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Richard was a longtime resident of Lima and Van Wert, Ohio, moving to California a few years ago to be closer to his children.
Richard was retired from Clark Equipment Company and enjoyed many years as an independent contractor. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in France. He enjoyed traveling the world, visiting over 150 countries. He was often seen on the dance floor with his long time companion, Helen Huston.
Richard was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lima and also attended Van Wert First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 370, VFW Spencerville Post 4661, and the American Legion Post 96. He served many years as a chaplain for Clark Equipment and the Allen County Jail system.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald K. Rader of Beaumont, CA, and Richard O. Rader of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Karen (Kathy) Tahan of Riverside, CA; a daughter-in-law, Bette (Lee) Rader; five grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding Richard in death are his parents, George Rader and Mabelle (Collins) Rader Hill, brothers, Everett and Paul Rader, and his sisters, Eva Gehring, Beatrice Korb, and Minnie Hill.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chiles – Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, 1170 Shawnee Road, Lima, Ohio 45805. Funeral services will be Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. with graveside services to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
