John T Martin was born to E. Stanley and Mabel Martin in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 6, 1937. Nicknamed “Tommy” for his middle name, the ancestral “Thomson”, he spent his childhood moving between Terre Haute, IN; Estes Park, Colorado; Fresno, CA and Santa Rosa/Sebastopol, CA. He and his brothers were involved in 4H and Future Farmer programs in their youth.

John served in the U.S. Army, training in California and served in Korea, receiving an honorable medical discharge. There are photos of John training at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii in the late 1950’s, and his father, Stanley Martin, wrote a letter in 1957 stating that John was attending “cooks and bakers school” at Ft Ord in California. John’s company was K company, 6th Infantry Regiment, Camp Carson, Colorado.
John played drums in local clubs, and was introduced to Sharon Wymer in 1968 by her sister Cookie at one of his gigs. John and Sharon were married in 1969 and enjoyed 36 years together. John was mainly a country western drummer, and although he appreciated many genres of music, he was a huge Beatles fan.
Like his folks, John loved taking his family on weekend drives and to parks and picnics. He also enjoyed working in his yard with flowers and plants. John loved his family and had a wonderful affinity with young children. His expressions of his sincere love for each family member was shared even more toward the end of his life and with the advent of hi tech and word processing, which helped him become a more avid letter writer. Those who knew John remember that he was quite a prankster and played tricks on family and friends, leaving funny stories for the family archives.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Ricky, Lori, Jay, Cybrena, Earl, Leonard and DeeDee; Grandchildren B.J., Andrew, Justin, Joe, D.J., Chris, Michael, Brandon, Destiny, Rayna and Ashley. Also by his sister, Nancy (and Jim Harper), Sister Kay May, brother Pete, brother Carl (and Kathy Martin), and many nieces and nephews. John will be missed by one and all.
