Dr J. W. Caldwell, Who Was Killed in Kansas City, Buried Beside Wife at Ursa. Ursa, May 9.--Dr. J.W. Caldwell, who passed away in Kansas City some time last Wednesday, was the husband of Mrs. Belle Colvin Caldwell, eldest daughter of the late Davis T. (Pollard, added by contributor) Colvin, who was born and lived near Ursa until her marriage to Dr. Caldwell. She preceded him in death nine years ago. Her remains were brouht from their Kansas City home and buried in the family lot at New Providence cemetery.
Friday her husband was laid to rest by her side. His death was caused by an explosion of some kind, but just how it happened, perhaps no one will every know.
His office and sleeping room were over a restaurant in Kansas City. The explosion was in the restaurant and blew out both sides of the building.
The fire was extinguished and in the office where Dr. Caldwell was found nothing was destroyed. The doctor was found crouched up near one of the doors. He seemed to be burned but slightly and death was supposed to have been caused by suffocation. Only one child was born to them, a son names Victor, who used to spend his vacations at the old home with is mother. He is now a division official of the Iron Mountain railroad and also a skilled surgeon in a hospital at Poplar Bluff, MO. He and his wife came with the body, arriving in Quincy at 1 a.m. Friday morning. Undertaker Daugherty had charge of the remains and started later in the morning for Ursa, where friends were awaiting to attend the funeral services.
