Funeral services for Mr. Charles Lee "Chuck" Crosslin, Jr., age 88, of Manchester will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alan Adams and Bro. Ron Boyles officiating. Burial will follow at Gnat Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with the family will be Friday 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Crosslin passed away on Wednesday, August 1st at TN State Veteran's Home in Murfreesboro.
Mr. Crosslin was born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Charles Lee and Bertha Leola Duncan Crosslin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. After his time in the service, he worked as a salesman for Mid-State Paper and Notion in Nashville. He later owned and operated several businesses including a nursery business in McMinnville, Chuck's Top of the Rock Truck Stop in Monteagle and retired as owner of Crosslin Enterprises, LLC in Manchester.
Mr. Crosslin was a member of Fredonia Church of Christ and most recently attended Main Street Church of Christ. He served as a Monteagle City Alderman and belonged to several associations including the NRA, VFW and Coffee County Senior Citizens. He never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity for conversation with anyone. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading his Bible and listening to gospel music, as well as "George" and "Hank". He especially enjoyed playing Chinese checkers with his wife, Naomi.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Crosslin was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Martin Crosslin; daughter, Lorette Crosslin Bumstead; and granddaughter, Katrina Greer Richey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Naomi Frazier Crosslin; children, Charline Crosslin Greer, Janette Crosslin (Bobby) Bolden, Barbara Martin, Jimmy (Lynda) Martin, Tresa Crosslin, Stephanie Crosslin; siblings, O.D. (Alta) Crosslin, Clyde Aaron Crosslin, Leola (Roy) Sain, Betty Jo (Ewin L.) Rigney; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Martin, Dan Sain, Barry Sain, David Rigney, Mike Crosslin, and Kevin Crosslin with honorary pallbearers being O.D. Crosslin, Clyde Aaron Crosslin, Bobby Bolden, Buck Dyer, J.B. Middleton, and members of Fredonia Church of Christ.
