Victoria- Herman Robert Shirley, 95, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born on December 2, 1919, in Waxahachie, Texas to the late Thomas and Girtha Shirley.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was the oldest living marine in Victoria County. Herman was a Retired Switchman for the Railroad of thirty-three years.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynda Shirley, Pam Collins, Patricia Simons all of Victoria and Brenda Knight of Sugarland; son, David Shirley of Katy, Texas; sisters, Rozell Cowart, of Houston Texas and Brunell Hester of Florida; brother, Douglas Shirley of Crosby; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be at Grace Funeral Home and again with the family receiving friends at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at Grace Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Parrish officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA, and KWV will follow at Mission Valley Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Robert Shirley, Bryan Simons, Daniel Simons, James Collins, Tim Collins, and Jeremy Knight. Honorary Pallbearers are Stephen Collins, and Chris Potts.
