"J.W. Weidner Fatally Injured When Car Stalls"
Prominent Insurance Man Dies Within Hour After Accident
James W. Weidner, one of the best known men in Delphi, Indiana, was fatally injured Wednesday afternoon at 1:40 o'clock when the car he was driving was struck by the north bound Monon Train at the West Delphi crossing. Mr. Weidner was eighty-three years of age, but looked many years younger. He was actively engaged in the insurance business, and was on a trip in connection with his work when he was injured. it is said that the car stalled on the tracks. An ambulance was called and he was rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He died enroute to the operating room. The news of the accident followed within an hour by his death, was a shock to the community. Everybody liked Mr. Weidner. He was the soul of honor, was kindly, genial and dealt with hundreds of people over the county in the spirit of one who loved his work and found joy in being of service. He was a life long resident of Delphi. His wife, Mrs. Kate Brough Weidner, was also born and reared in Delphi, They are affiliated with the Christian Church. Mr. Weidner was a prominent Mason and Odd Fellow. The body will be removed this afternoon to the residence from the Blythe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Weidner home. Reverend L.E. Knox officiating. Burial will be made in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
