Hugh Eugene Bateman, 68, passed away Feb. 23, 2015 in the province of Cebu, in the Philippines. He was born April 9, 1947, in Vicksburg, the son of James Bateman and Hazel M. Sterling.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. After returning he served in the Louisiana National Guard, retiring after 20 years of service. He returned to Mississippi where he resided until moving to the Philippines, where he lived until his death. He will be sadly missed by family and friends across many states.

He is survived by his mother, Hazel Sterling; his wife Benigia Abdon Bateman of Cebu, Philippines; two sons, Ronald Bateman and wife Becky, and Robert Bateman and wife Ashley, all of Belle Chase, Louisiana; a daughter, Christine Tatum and husband Julien of Oxford; five grand-daughters, Lauren Mae, Caralyn, and Allison Bateman, all of Belle Chase; and Thi and Amelia Bateman; a grandson, Trey Tatum; a sister, Linda Bateman Clack and husband Jerry of Brandon; two nieces, Melanie Clack O’Gwyn and husband Greg and their son Elijah, and April Clack; two stepsisters, Liz Sterling White and Jana Sterling Gomez; three step-daughters and three stepsons of Cebo, Philippines; and his beloved Aunt Lonnie Ervin of Gloster.

He is preceded in death by his father; stepfather, J.W. Sterling. Paternal grandfather and grandmother, Hughey and Gladys Bateman. Maternal grandmother and grandfather, Wille D. Mallett and Clyde Mallett.

Memorial services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Oxford-Meadville Road, Gloster, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm., with burial following in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Gloster.

Honorary Pallbearers: Brent Bateman, Jeffrey “Scooter” Bateman, Bill Bateman, Clifford Bateman, Ricky Bateman, Darrell Bateman and Warren Holland.
